I need a Wii bit of advice…
I’ve ordered a Nintendo Wii. This will be my first ever games console, so I need a bit of advice on what games to get. So far, I’ve ordered:
- The Wii with Sports Pack
- Extra Wii-mote and Nunchuck (I share the flat with 2 others so would be fun to have multiplayerness)
- Rayman’s Ravin Rabbids (or however it’s spelt), on the grounds that for multiplayer silliness we might get bored with Sports quite quickly. Now, this one I bought from gamestation.co.uk and decided to risk buying a ‘used’ rather than a new copy, as it’s cheaper. Is this a good idea?
I also intend to get Super Mario Galaxy as all reviews I’ve read were positively glowing, and I have had a brief go at it on a friend’s Wii and was quite captivated by the whooshiness of everything.
So, at some point – though not just yet – I will be looking for more games. I’ve been reading around and so far I’m tempted by these:
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (N.B. I have never played a Zelda game!)
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (hey, I need at least one shooty game…)
Any hints, tips, suggestions?
Perhaps I will chronicle my first console experiences here in the weeks to come.
(By the way, having noticed the last thing I posted publicly here on this blog, I should probably comment that I am single, having broken up with Katy at New Year. London–Glasgow was pretty difficult.)
Oooh – you should definitely get a Wii! I love mine to pieces. Your choice of games is good (particularly Rayman, which whilst addictive is very good fun, and yet still feasible to complete. Also great for having friends round)
As for Zelda – I also own this, and whilst it’s a very good game (as all Zeldas are) it gets pretty tough pretty quickly, and takes a while to get through. I’m still a long way off finishing! That said, it’s a great fun way to spend your time if you don’t mind being challenged (sometimes beyond your ability).
I haven’t played Metroid Prime, but have herd some good things about it. For a shoot-em-up type game it might be worth looking into Red Steel – it really stretches the Wii to its full extent, and you get to blast people to bits (always good for laugh).
Hope this helps! Also, hope your life is going well aside from sad things. hug

An afterthought – Paper Mario is much better than it looks! That might be worth considering instead of Zelda.

Well, I think I once played a Zelda game (if I’m not getting names mixed up), that must have been the only, or at least one of the very few, such games I ever played through. I liked it, because it was sort of role-play like, with fantasy. But I think I also once played some Paper Mario, which was quite fun. Hope you enjoy your games!

Well, as a Zelda fanboy I am required to say its fantastic. Some of the puzzles in it are quite hard, but I would still recommend it as an involving game with a fantastic story.
Paper Mario is reputably fantastic.
Metroid is less an FPS an more an adventure game in which you shoot things. In some ways, it plays similarly to Zelda – running around, finding new items which unlock abilities that allow you to go new places. I have enjoyed the metroid games I’ve played in the past, but not as much as Zelda.
WiiFit might be good if you fancy using it for entertaining exercise…
