Lenses

I am wearing contact lenses. This will be a short post as it’s hard to focus – I have a slight astigmatism which means that these lenses can’t correct fully. Also I think perhaps I may have put one in inside out… would it feel weird, or just look blurry? Though it’s my left eye, which has the stronger astigmatism.

It’s very strange. But if I can improve the time it takes me to actually put the damn things in my eyes then I think they will do for the ball. Otherwise I’ll turn up half an hour late with bloodshot eyes.

  1. I have astigmatisms on both of my eyes and wear contact lenses to correct it. Although it’s rather weird – even though my eyes are pretty much the same, I have better vision in my right eye if I wear a “normal” contact lense (Focus Dailies), but my left eye has to have the lense which corrects the astigmatism (Focus Dailies Toric) in order for my eyes to focus properly.

Anyway, I find that if I put a contact lense in the wrong way round, it’s both uncomfortable and I have blurry vision. I don’t know if you’ve been told by your optician to check how the lenses are the right way round, but I was told that – if you put the contact lense on the end of your finger and hold it up so that you are looking at it completely sideways on – the top of the lense should be horizontal. If it’s curved, it’s inside out.

What type of contact lenses are you wearing at the moment and how strong is your astigmatism?

  2. The lenses are daily disposables, I don’t know more than that; I assume the astigmatism measurements are the “cyl” on my prescription, which is R -0.75 and L -1.50 (whilst the normal “sph” measurements are R -8.75 and L -7.75). Sounds very odd that your eyes prefer different lenses! Anyway, I do vaguely remember the optician saying that if I wanted to wear lenses more frequently (as opposed to the “very occasionally” which is my current intention) they could do some which correct for the astigmatism – I assume this is the “toric” you mention?

Thanks for the tip on getting them the right way round – I was told that it’s easiest just to look at it both ways, and the right way round you see the curvature continuing whilst the wrong way it kind of looks like the edge is curving back down again. I did wonder if I had put the lens in the wrong way, but it wasn’t particularly uncomfortable and I was also aware that it wouldn’t be correcting for the astigmatism. And I couldn’t face the hassle of trying to put it in again!

I will be having another go this weekend, and will try to leave them in for a couple of hours this time.
