Games, VOLES and Boot Camp
Work was less than exciting last week. I was feeling pretty down. Fortunately I knew I’d have a good weekend, and that helped keep me going…
On Friday evening I met up with a few VOLES in a very nice pub—a few drinks, good company, and the pub even did good food. The only thing that could have improved it would have been the addition of yet more lovely people. :-)
Saturday afternoon saw me in Enfield, visiting friends Chris and Rachel who had invited me, plus a few others, over to play some board games. And I mean good (mainly German) games such as Carcassonne, The Settlers of Catan and Torres. OK, so we didn’t actually get time to play the latter two, but I did get in a game of Abalone, which was very good, and I’d like to buy it, although I understand it has one major flaw in that it’s possible for one player (or both, I suppose) to play very defensively and cause a sort of stalemate. Also ntrigued/tempted by Zertz, Yinsh and Quoridor.
What else have I been up to? Last night went to the “Namco station” in County Hall with Emma, Paul, Dave and Emma’s sister Jenny. The intention was largely to go bowling, but after a couple of games we decided to go and waste money in the arcade. I beat Emma on the dance-mat game, my score being over three times higher than hers. Haha! ;-)
My hands are hurting now so I’ll have to write about Boot Camp some other time. I know, I know: how disappointed you must be, all three of you who might actually read this.
Yes, very disappointed! ;-)
You know what intruiges me: I have this site as a bookmark on my browser, and the little symbol next to it is the same as the one for http://www.tagesschau.de, which is our main news site, it is in fact the symbol of ARD, the First German Television Channel. Very strange!

Three times my score my arse Michael! The only reason for your slight victory is because I was tired out from beating Dave’s ass! ;-)

A Carcassonne fan eh? I always play that with my brother, but he always kicks my ass at it. I got Settlers of Catan for my birthday from him too, but have yet to play it.
Nice to read your blog! Don’t you just love ‘em? :) On my one, I sounds like I’m trying to be some kind of tech journalist, but it doesn’t really come off!! :)
