New, improved interface

Michael version 2 coming up tomorrow! :-)

No, nothing drastic really—I went shopping yesterday, and with the help of my fashion advisor Clare Bannister, bought some new smart shoes and pinstriped trousers (which might make me look taller… here’s hoping).

Had some trouble with Kubuntu on the eMac, and eventually discovered that I had to specify a ModeLine in the xorg.conf file. Took a bit of fiddling but got there in the end. (Until this sort of thing is sorted out in the most popular distros, Linux will never become common on the desktop of ordinary folk!) It’s mainly for dad to play with, actually, as he’s been using a Linux server with KDE at work, and was interested in playing around with it a bit more.

I also decided I need a scanner, as I’m determined to minimise the number of paper documents I keep “for reference” or “just in case”. This Canon Canoscan LiDE 60 looks just the thing – it can be stood vertically, so won’t take up too much space! Just need to wait to find out if it’s compatible with the Intel Macs.
