Long time no blog
Oops. Well, you know what it’s like. Only about 3 people know about this blog anyway…
To those few people: hi, I hope you’ve been enjoying Christmas and I wish you a very happy new year! :-)
I spent today in Peter Jones, folding towels, explaining to customers the differences between the Classic, Egyptian and Pima towels, finding (or, quite often, failing to find) towels of a particular style in a particular size in a particular colour, showing customers the various types of bath mats available and explaining that the ones usually found in PJ were not out at the moment due to all the Clearance stock, trying to remove the worst of the fluff from my suit, and general towel-related stuff. Oh, and apologising for not knowing where anything else in PJ could be found (“I’m afraid I don’t usually work here, I’m just helping out…”) Ah, towels. It was strange, actually, that I preferred Tuesday, which was the first day of Clearance and hence much busier! Still, it’s very reassuring to think that next Tuesday I’ll be back in a nice calm office, sitting down, with no towels in sight. And people to talk to (or insult, in Mullin’s case) at break times.
Meanwhile, I’m gradually getting through the Ruby “Pickaxe” book, and have ordered “Agile Web Development with Rails” as Ruby on Rails seems to lack any introductory documentation, save a few tutorials which don’t explain enough about why or how things are done.
Glad you found clearance ok. I’m not looking forward to it that much, I went into Oxford St on the 30th and linens was really busy. Also I hate packing things into bags, especially big things. I might see if they’ll put me on the tills or something. Ah well, at least I’ll have Dave to annoy when I get bored :-) We’ll need to think up some good Scouser insults! Poor Dave always getting picked on…
